Why you Should Include Goji Berries in your Diet

Goji berries are the number one food in Chinese medicine and with good reason. They nourish the body on a superior level by providing it with startling array of extraordinary nutrients. Containing long-chain sugars known as polysaccharides that fortify the immune system, this delicious sweet snack will boost your health with ease.

So what makes this little red berry so amazing? The Goji berry is an “adaptogen”, which means it does not target a specific area of the body but instead benefits the body as a whole, helping to create a state of balance and restoring homeostasis. Not only does this berry help you adapt to higher or varying stress levels, but it is known to enhance liver and kidney function resulting in enhanced stamina, strength, longevity, and sexual energy.

Goji berries are a complete protein source and contain 19 different amino acids, all 8 essential amino acids and 21 or more trace minerals (including zinc, iron, copper, calcium, germanium, selenium, and phosphorus) as well as vitamins B1, B2, B6, and vitamin E. Being so jam-packed with nutrition, the goji berry has earned the well-deserved title of “superfood”.

In addition to the above benefits, Goji berries contain beta-carotene and zeaxanthin, which improve eyesight. One of zeaxanthin’s key roles is to protect the retina of the eye by absorbing blue light and acting as an antioxidant.

Another unique specialty of this berry is it increases HGH (Human Growth Hormone).  As we age we produce less and less HGH. Decreased levels of HGH has been linked to increased signs of aging, such as wrinkles. Goji berries are the only known food known to help stimulate the production of HGH, making it not only a superfood but a super-beauty-food.

There have been several scientific studies that show the goji berry contains antioxidants and that goji extracts may prevent the growth of cancer cells, reduce blood glucose, and lower cholesterol levels. A Chinese study in the Chinese Journal of Oncology in 1994 found that 79 people with cancer responded better to treatment when goji was added to their regimen.

The real question is not why you should include them in your diet but why wouldn’t you? If you eat the Standard American Diet you most likely suffer from nutritional deficiencies, and eating small amounts of superfoods like the Goji berry can help correct imbalances. If you already understand the importance of putting healthy food into your body and do so consistently, then eating superfoods like the Goji berry will truly take your health to that next level.
